Easter is, of course, a celebration in the Christian community, but it has become a societal celebration as well with the delivery of special baskets to children. The Easter Bunny has a special way with Easter cookies, chocolates, and, of course, colorful eggs!
If you like to be the Easter Bunny for your family and friends, 3Bros wrapped stroopwafels are an excellent addition to treat baskets. For those far away, it’s easy to send stroopwafels in time to mark the holiday.
The Easter Bunny Tradition
In the Netherlands, kids hunt for Easter eggs in their gardens or in the house, just as they do in the United States. The Paas Haas – technically the Easter Hare – certainly knows how to make children happy just as the Easter Bunny does here.
Stroopwafels are a Dutch favorite, and the Paas Haas may add them to baskets. For American kids, stroopwafels would be an interesting surprise.
Since you heat them by putting them atop your teacup, they add a bit of magic to a child’s holiday as they discover the gooey center hiding in these crunchy Easter cookies.
Chocolate is a requirement of Easter baskets everywhere. We offer dipped stroopwafels in a variety of chocolates. White, Dark, and Milk chocolates are delicious. The most surprising one is Ruby chocolate, a naturally pink treat.
Special Easter Foods
The celebration brings together family and friends for the day or a long weekend. Where people gather, there are special family breakfasts and lunches.
In the American South, eating together is a big part of the holiday. The midday Sunday meal is still called dinner. There is often a big ham or turkey as the main dish, and people make their favorite casseroles to go with it.
In the Netherlands, people may decorate their table with favorite bulb flowers such as tulips and daffodils. They may create a centerpiece that is like a small Christmas tree with decorative eggs.
Stroopwafels make a neat treat to include in your Easter family breakfasts or snacks. They are special because we can’t have them every day, and they are universally liked by those who have tried them and by those trying them for the very first time. We are offering special holiday combinations that can be sent as treats to your family and friends.
Eggs, Baskets and Bonnets on Easter
The idea for an Easter basket actually came from children’s bonnets. They would make a nest in their bonnet to receive gifts of colored hard-boiled eggs. No doubt, some chocolates and Easter cookies were welcome too.
Children played games like egg rolling. In the Netherlands, we have a game called eiertikken that is similar to a better known game called egg tapping. The one who doesn’t break the egg wins in the end.
Easter bonnets come from the era when wearing hats was an essential part of American society. Here in Georgia, parents still like to provide a fancy hat for their young daughters on the holiday.
Cascarones, a tradition from Mexico, are eggs filled with confetti. These may be leftovers from Mardi Gras or created just for the purpose. Needless to say, these lead to cracking them over someone’s head or having a confetti fight.
Back to the Netherlands, if you were a child there, you’d be waiting for your grandparents, aunts or uncles to arrive. And you’d be hoping they brought some fresh stroopwafels with them.
