Our family is split down the middle by an important controversy. Half of us will tell you that the traditional stroopwafel is absolutely 100 percent perfect the way it is. The other half is convinced that a chocolate-dipped stroopwafel is not just different. It’s better.
This argument probably isn’t original to our family unit. I imagine it dates back to the first time someone dipped a stroopwafel in rich Belgian chocolate in the Netherlands years ago.
Of course, the chocolate argument is common to many foods. If there is a way to make something better, it’s always argued that chocolate is the way to do that.
We’ve even heard someone suggest that dipping hot corn on the cob in chocolate would be divine. That’s just how crazy people are about chocolate around here and everywhere, I guess.
Chocolate Dipped Cookies Are Us
On the chocolate team, the arguments are many. They claim that chocolate is the most important food known to humans. If you try to tell them that vegetables or bread might be more important, they will shout you down in excitement.
The chocolate team early on declared that we would be dipping our stroopwafels in chocolate, and they have been right about that. Chocolate-dipped cookies are always a big seller, and the sweet, creamy taste does go perfectly with the crunchy Stroop.
In fact, chocolate is just the most natural thing in the world to pair up with the caramel goodness inside a stroopwafel.
However, even the chocolate team is not 100 percent in agreement on one issue. They are split on what type of chocolate is the best.
“Milk chocolate adds a creamy sweetness that is the best in the world,” argues one.
“Dark chocolate is the ultimate due to its less sweet, stronger taste,” argues another.
The whole family agrees that ruby chocolate is just a remarkable new taste that anyone and everyone will love. If you haven’t tried this naturally pink chocolate, you have something wonderful to look forward to…
Stroopwafel is King
The king stroopwafel team, as they call themselves, are a bit snobby about the whole thing. While they agree wholeheartedly that chocolate-dipped stroopwafels are delicious, they insist that a stroopwafel is perfect just as it is.
“Look at how it transforms in just a few minutes atop my teacup,” says one as they pull apart the cookie to reveal the syrupy insides.
“Taste how perfect it is with my coffee,” says another as they dip it into their brew.
And of course, they have a history behind them. The stroopwafel has been famous in the Netherlands for 100 years or more. It’s a proven winner that continues to shine brightly.
